Best 3D Printers for Beginners (Updated for 2025)

If you’re getting started with 3D printing, choosing the right first machine can make all the difference. Below is an updated overview of five excellent beginner-friendly printers, including a look at Bambu Lab’s beginner-friendly models.

1. Bambu Lab Ecosystem (A1, A1 Mini, P1S)

Overview of Bambu’s Beginner Models

  • A1 – A full-sized, highly capable beginner printer featuring automatic calibration, fast setup, and excellent print quality.
  • A1 Mini – A compact, affordable option that keeps the same polished workflow and ease-of-use features as the full A1. Smaller 180x180mm build plate size.
  • P1S – A slightly more advanced fully-enclosed model that remains beginner-friendly while offering better performance and environmental control.
  • P2S – An updated version of the P1S, with newer features, quality-of-life enhancements (like a full color touch screen), and faster/higher quality printing.

Why They’re Good for Beginners

  • Pre-assembled or nearly pre-assembled for fast setup.
  • Strong automatic calibration features, including bed leveling and vibration compensation, with the P2S featuring automatic flow calibration for easy changing between filament brands and types.
  • Polished software ecosystem that reduces friction for new users.
  • Mobile app linked to the Makerworld community, allowing you to to download and print in only a couple taps.
  • Excellent reliability and one of the most active user communities in the hobby.

Multicolor Capability

Yes.
The Bambu AMS. AMS2 Pro, and AMS Lite systems (sold with printers as combos or add-ons) allow up to four colors or materials per print, depending on the model and module used. Additional AMS systems can be daisy chained for even more colors.

Summary

Bambu Lab offers one of the smoothest beginner experiences on the market, with high-quality results and optional multicolor printing, with solid hardware that’s reliable and has widely available parts distribution. However, initial costs are higher, and for the best quality and results, you still need to step into learning how to use a slicer program.

2. Elegoo Centauri Carbon

Why It’s Beginner-Friendly

The Centauri Carbon is a budget-friendly CoreXY printer that offers impressive speed, auto-calibration, and a 256x256x256mm build volume. It’s a great option for beginners who want better performance without a steep learning curve, while saving some money over Bambu Lab’s options. Think of it as a “Budget P1S”.

Multicolor Capability

No.
There’s currently no official multicolor or multi-material support, and early upgrade concepts and supposed leaks have not progressed into actual products. Elegoo has recently made public statements that the multicolor system has been significantly delayed, with some speculating this really means the system has been cancelled entirely. Elegoo does have a replacement for the Centauri Carbon on the horizon called the Centauri Carbon 2 which has native multicolor capability. This printer is slated to release some time in 2026.

Summary

A strong, fast, single-color machine with terrific value. Perfect for users who don’t need multicolor printing. (or who are okay with limited manual color-by-layer color changes)

3. Flashforge Adventurer 5X (AD5X)

Why It’s Beginner-Friendly

The Flashforge Adventurer 5X blends ease of use with more advanced capabilities. Automatic leveling, a modern interface, and reliable day-to-day performance make it approachable for beginners. Additionally, it brings multicolor capability at an affordable cost. Interestingly, it is one of the few multicolor printers that can easily handle TPU due to its multicolor system design, making it a tool in the arsenal of even seasoned 3d printing pros.

Multicolor Capability

Yes.
The AD5X supports up to four colors out of the box, making it one of the easiest and least-expensive multicolor-capable options for newcomers.

Summary

A great choice if you want multicolor printing without upgrades or aftermarket add-ons with a simple setup process and small footprint..

4. Flashforge Adventurer 5M (AD5M)

Why It’s Beginner-Friendly

The Flashforge Adventurer 5M focuses heavily on plug-and-play performance. Setup is quick, features are intuitive, and print quality is consistent—ideal for someone learning the ropes. Additionally, the AD5M is an incredible value, often going on sale for under $200. This can be considered the single-color version of the AD5X. While it doesn’t have the robust software ecosystem or commonly posted print profiles like the Bambu printers, it is still an excellent printer for beginners.

Multicolor Capability

No.
Third-party modifications exist but aren’t recommended for beginners, or really anyone, to be honest.

Summary

A dependable, simple-to-use single-color printer that delivers a very smooth onboarding experience.
